It was almost like we were looking for her wedding dress, instead of a dress for her communion. I know that before long she’ll be walking down the aisle on her wedding day. She looked like a little bride now with the lovely white dress and veil she was wearing. I suppose planning a party for her communion isn’t all that different from the someday wedding reception I’ll be helping her to plan. We had a cake decorated for the occasion, hired a band and made a buffet of different foods for the guests. We wanted to make this a day she would always remember, without going overboard on decorations or accessories. I also bought a girls pink photo album for her to have as her very own with pictures of her first holy communion day and the party with her friends and family. Like I said before we wanted to keep things as simple as possible and not go overboard, so me and some of the other moms made the food, and the only thing I ordered for it was the cake. There were at least four different kinds of salads, including a great tasting potato salad, and vegetable dishes, fried chicken and more. We had a fantastic dinner to share with our family and our best friends. It turned out to be a very nice evening and everyone seemed to have a good time, including our daughter. Her father and I had her name engraved on a beautiful gold cross we ordered for her, and there were many wonderful communion gifts she received from our guests, too.

All through the party I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was practicing for the day she grows up and gets married. She’s growing up so fast and before you know it I will be helping her plan her wedding day and picking out reception accessories with her, for real. When that day comes, at least I’ll have a heads up on where to find the supplies and accessories she’ll need.
